Military and civil personnel represent a cornerstone for the development of the national defence system of the country. Strong defence capabilities of the armed forces are based not only on physical preparation and armament of the military personnel but first and foremost are built on their professional development and social protection as well as on the approach of the state and society towards the army.
Ministry of Defence of Georgia carries out various social protection programs for the families of the military servicemen who died or were heavily wounded in action during 2008 August military activities and in international peacekeeping missions, including for the civil and military personnel of the MoD.
Financial Support
The MoD of Georgia, periodically, on holidays, allocates one-time financial assistance for the heavily wounded military servicemen and the families of the soldiers who died in action during 2008 August military activities.
The MoD of Georgia provides financing the social and medical expenses for the above-said categories, as well as for the civil and military personnel of the MoD. With this purpose, a special Commission reviewing correspondence on social, financial and medical issues was set up in the MoD. It is tasked with discussion of applications of citizens and making respective decisions.
Raised Salaries
Starting from 2013, the salaries of the military personnel participating in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan increased by USD 300. Remuneration for the 89 % of the civil and military personnel of the MoD rose by 25%.
Compensation
Under the initiative of the MoD and Prime Minister of Georgia, the families of the military personnel who died in action during international missions receive GEL 100 000. Furthermore, heavily wounded soldiers receive financial assistance in the amount of GEL 7 000 and less wounded ones-GEL 3 000. Within the new initiative, the families of the military servicemen who fell in the fight for territorial integrity of Georgia and in international missions receive monthly compensation too in the amount of GEL 500 in 2014 and GEL 1000 in 2015.
Employment
Minimum one member of the families of the military servicemen who died in action during 2008 August military conflict and in international missions is employed in the MoD of Georgia.
Providing with Housing
On the basis of the Order # 441 of Minister of Defence of Georgia regarding the “Necessary Procedures of Providing Housing in Ownership/Temporary Use Registered on the Balance of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia”, the Mod granted apartments to the following categories of persons:
The families of the military servicemen who died in action during performing peacekeeping and security operations; other kind of peace support activities; military exercises/trainings as well as in fights for the unity and territorial integrity of Georgia;
• The military servicemen who were heavily wounded in action during performing peacekeeping and security operations; other kind of peace support activities; military exercises/trainings as well as when performing military service duties in 2008 August military conflict.
• The military servicemen who fulfilled the terms of the contract concluded with the MoD.
A special commission was set up in the MoD authorized to make decisions about providing the above-said categories of persons with housing in ownership or in temporary use.
Cultural Programs
The MoD of Georgia, periodically, on holidays (New Year, Children’s Day, August Week) organizes various entertainment and cultural programs for the children of the military servicemen who died in action in the fights for the territorial integrity of Georgia and in international operations.
