Defense Minister of Georgia held an introductory meeting with newly appointed Ambassador of Latvia to Georgia. Juansher Burchuladze congratulate Edite Medne on appointment on a new position, wished her every success and expressed hope to continue close and productive cooperation between Georgia and Latvia in the future.
Minister expressed gratitude to Latvia as reliable partner and close friend, for firm, strong, consistent and outstanding support to Georgia’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and Euro-Atlantic aspiration. He focused on enhanced dynamic of cooperation in defense sphere. The importance of cooperation in military education, Latvia’s assistance in SNGP implementation process and experts’ engagement, as well as cooperation with Riga Strategic Communications Center of Excellence was underlined at the meeting. The sides also referred to NATO-Georgia cooperation mechanisms, procedures implemented for integration to EU, security environment and existing threats in the region, new security architecture in Europe and Georgia’s national security in this respect.
Edite Medne was appointed on a position of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Latvia to Georgia in August. She replaced Diplomat Ingrida Levrens.
