September 27 is the day of the fall of Sokhumi. Today, 29 years have passed since the end of the War in Abkhazia. The Minister of Defense of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze along with the Prime Minister, the representatives of the government and Defence Forces paid tribute to the memory of the heroes killed in action the in Abkhazian War. They laid a wreath on the memorial of the heroes and talked with their family members. The GDF representatives, veterans, internally displaced citizens from Abkhazia were also present at the Heroes' Square.
The armed conflict in Abkhazia began on August 14, 1992, lasted for 13 months and 13 days and ended on September 27, 1993 with the fall of Sokhumi. As a result of the war, thousands of people died and 300 thousand citizens became internally displaced.
