29 years have passed since the battle near Daba Tamishi in Abkhazia. The leaders of the Georgian Defence Forces remembered the Georgian fighters who died in the battle of Tamishi and paid tribute to their memory. The Deputy Commander of the Defence Forces - Chief of the General Staff Brigadier General Johnny Tatunashvili and the Deputy Minister of Defence Davit Chichinadze laid wreath at the memorial of the heroes who were killed in action in battles for the unity of Georgia. To honour the memory of Tamishi heroes, Chairman of Parliamentary Committee of Defence and Security Irakli Beraia, Head of the State Service of Veterans Affairs Koba Kobaladze, Chairman of the Government of Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia Ruslan Abashidze and Abkhazian war fighters attended the tribute paying ceremony.
On July 2, 1993, at 05:00, the Abkhazian side landed the troops consisting of 600 men. At dawn, the first offensive was carried out against the Georgian military units located in Tamishi, Labra and Zemo Kintkhi. Dusheti, Shavnabada and Avaza battalions suffered a large number of causalities. The Georgian side lost around 300 warriors as a result of the several day-long combat operations. Despite the significant loss, the Georgian troops managed to repel the land forces and maintained their positions.
