Defense Minister of Georgia Discussed Black Sea Regional Security Issues with Bulgarian and Turkish Counterparts

Within NATO Defense Ministerial, Defense Minister of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze met with Defense Minister of Bulgaria Dragomir Zakov and National Defense Minister of Turkey Hulusi Akar. Black Sea region security in parallel of Russia’s aggression to Ukraine was one of the main issues at the both meetings. The sides stressed on the ongoing war in Ukraine that complicated situation in the region. Western support for peace, stability and development was critically highlighted at the meetings. Juansher Burchuladze thanked Bulgarian and Turkish counterparts for their support to Georgia. Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspiration and contribution in international missions were also outlined at the meetings. 

Juansher Burchuladze and Hulusi Akar discussed the existing cooperation issues in defense sphere and future plans between Georgia and Turkey. Juansher Burchuladze gave information to his Turkish counterpart on the implemented reforms at Georgian MoD and highlighted Turkish contribution in implementation of SNGP initiatives. At the meeting with Turkish counterpart, Juansher Burchuladze also stressed on Turkey’s political and practical support to Georgia and cooperation in military education. 

Cooperation issues in defense sphere, including Bulgaria’s support to Georgia’s NATO integration, multinational military exercises, training and military education to Georgian soldiers were discussed at the meeting between Juansher Burchuladze and Dragomir Zakov. 

Georgia is participation in NATO Defense Ministerial with a status of NATO partner country. Session with participation of NATO member and partner countries is going on at NATO HQ.
