Chief of Georgian Defense Forces Met with NATO CMC

While visiting the Kingdom of Belgium Chief of Defense Forces of Georgia held bilateral meeting with NATO Chairman of Military Committee. Major General Giorgi Matiashvili and Admiral Rob Bauer overviewed NATO-Georgia military cooperation issues and discussed priorities and future cooperation prospects. Major General Giorgi Matiashvili thanked NATO CMC for the support and underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation and enhancing interoperability with the Alliance in the scope of existing threats and challenges. 

Security environment of the region and Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine were the main topics of the discussion. The sides expressed support to Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and solidarity and condemned Russia’s activities. 

Major General Giorgi Matiashvili briefed Admiral Rob Bauer on the transformation processing in Georgian Defense Forces and the initiatives implementing under the SNGP. He also introduced the chairman of the military committee to the long-term development plan for strengthening the defense capabilities of Georgia, which envisages the use of all practical mechanisms of cooperation with NATO and aims to increase the capabilities of the Georgian Defense Forces.

Georgia’s contribution to NATO-led international operations was once more emphasized at the meeting. Georgian side once more expressed readiness to continue contribution in NATO-led missions and operations in the future.
