Georgia’s important transit capabilities are strengthening. Georgia is implementing the host nation support operations for the citizens evacuated from Afghanistan by partner countries and is providing important logistical support in various directions.
A Regional Transit Hub has been established at Tbilisi International Airport and at the military base station of Georgian Defence Forces near the airport, with the engagement of Georgian, Norwegian, Swedish, Finn and other member states of NATO through civilian and military personnel. Tents and medical stations were arranged on the territory of the airport where the passengers travelling from Afghanistan to other countries transiting Georgia will receive necessary first medical care. The camp will be served by the Georgian Defence Forces on a daily basis.
Tbilisi International Airport is being used as a way station by evacuation flights of the NATO Military Transportation Organization, which is running daily flights to Kabul and back, as to the evacuated people, they are taking flights from Kabul to Tbilisi airport via various charter flights.
