The first graduation ceremony of the Sergeant`s Candidate Course of Basic Combat Training was held at the Giorgi Antsukhelidze NCO Academy. Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces Major General Giorgi Matiashvili, the US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan, Sergeant Major of the Georgian Defence Forces Giorgi Gogochuri, and Sergeant Major Matthew Marks of the National Guard of the U.S. State of Georgia congratulated the military servicemen on the successful accomplishment of the course and wished them success in their future service.
The course closing ceremony was attended by the Commander of the National Guard of the State of Georgia, Major General Thomas Carden. Before the event, the American General got familiar with the life fire exercise during which the military servicemen performed training in shooting, overcoming obstacles, first medical aid and etc.
51 military servicemen completed the Sergeant`s Candidate Course and were awarded certificates.
The first level Leadership Course was established under a Memorandum of Understanding between the Georgian Defence Forces and the National Guard of the U.S. State of Georgia, with the support of the US National Guard Command. The training course lasted for 21 days at the Giorgi Antsukhelidze NCO Academy. The training included training in shooting, overcoming obstacles, delivering first aid, military topography, communications, unit management procedures and developing leadership skills.
