The Minister of Defence of Georgia Juansher Burchuladze and the Commander of the Defence Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili inaugurated the bust of General Giorgi Mazniashvili in a solemn environment. The bust of the Georgian national hero was placed in the foyer of the administrative building of the General Staff of the Defence Forces, which was repaired within the ongoing infrastructure works. The Minister of Defence also inspected the renovated foyer of the General Staff and left a note in the memory book.
Symbolically, opening the sttute of Georgian General on this day is associated with one of the General's most successful battles, which took place in July. In June of 1918, General Giorgi Mazniashvili was appointed on the position of Governor -General of Abkhazia and Commander of Black Sea troops. Under his command, the Georgian army first liberated Abkhazia and then Sochi and Tuafse districts from Bolshevik armed formations. The bust of the Georgian national hero was created by a sculptor Gia Japaridze. He made a bronze bust based on archival materials.
A statute of General Giorgi Kvinitadze, also created by him, was placed in the foyer of the Ministry of Defence at the initiative of Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili during his tenure as Defence Minister. Opening of renovated foyer of General Staff was attended by deputies of Commander of Defence Forces and the heads of the departments of General Staff.
