“Education and physical training are one of the priority directions for us. The opening of Lyceum is one more important step forward, designed to help the additional replenishment of Georgian armed forces. Considering the successful operation of the military school, another such center is planned to be opened in the western Georgia”, stated Defence Minister.
After taking tour of the Lyceum, American Ambassador expressed his point of view on the importance of education of military servants in parallel to their physical preparation. “Very pleased to be here with Minister Akhalaia, to see this defence academy; it’s an important piece of the professional, military education here in Georgia, obviously prior to this students becoming full fledge members in the Armed Forces, but fundamentally any military establishment is only as good as the people in it, and I think it’s very impressive that the Ministry has taken this step to start building the right kinds of minds to be Georgian soldiers in the future as part of the effort in strengthening Georgia’s defence capabilities and US is the strong partner of Georgia in realizing a strong defence,” said John Bass to journalists.
For the present moment, a total of 300 cadets from various parts of Georgia, selected on the basis of contest results, are studying in the Lyceum. Teaching in the military school is carried out on the basis of national curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Science and additional military program that foresees preparation of students in physical capabilities, history, military theory, topography and informatics, along with the subjects of general educational program.
