“Serving for you, for our Army, for those people who sacrifice their lives to our homeland was a huge pride and honor for me”, - Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili farewelled MoD employees with these words.
Ex Defense Minister pledged every support and wished success to the newly appointed Defense Minister Juansher Burchuladze and Chief of Defense Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili. “Our priority is strong army. I pledge to do my best to strengthen our army more and more in the shortest periods of time”. The representatives of Defense Forces and Defense Ministry attended the farewell ceremony.
Irakli Garibashvili was appointed as Defense Minister in September 2019. Under his leadership a number of essential reforms were passed at Defense Ministry: Long-term, 10 year long development plan for enhancing defense capabilities was elaborated; modernization of armament and equipment was paid great attention on purpose to enhance defense capabilities; air defense capabilities were developed and under Minister’s initiative, soon Georgian Defense Forces will have updated and modernized aviation park; military enterprise has been improved; outdated equipment was replaced by modern ones; essential infrastructural projects were carried out – up to 250 military objects on 60 locations were renovated and rehabilitated; on purpose to provide honorable conditions for military, equipment was improved for servicemen and currently Defense Forces are equipped with NATO standard, modern and highest quality uniforms and boots; nutrition ratio and health care is also improved.
Parliament of Georgia approved Irakli Garibashvili as Prime Minister on February 22, 2021.
