Defence Minister hosted Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe and Africa

Minister of Defence of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili hosted Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe & Africa, Major General Stephen M. Neary. During the meeting the sides discussed bilateral cooperation issues in defence sphere between Georgia and it strategic partner – the United States of America and expressed hope that close and successful cooperation will strengthen further.

Irakli Garibashvili underlined the importance of the U.S. support in development and transformation process of the Georgian Defence Forces and talked about the significance of the U.S.-Georgia joint military exercises.

Georgia’s contribution to global peace and security was also discussed at the meeting. Irakli Garibashvili expressed gratitude to General Neary for the U.S. assistance in pre-deployment training of the Georgian soldiers for the Resolute Support Mission (RSM) and underlined the important role of the U.S. marines in the preparation stage for this responsible mission.

Today, Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe & Africa met with the Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces, Major General Giorgi Matiashvili. General Matiashvili thanked General Neary for the visit and underscored the importance of close cooperation with the U.S. marines. Commander of the Georgian Defence Forces informed the U.S. General about the transformation process of the Georgian Defence Forces.

Within the framework of the visit, Commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe & Africa, Major General Stephen M. Neary will visit the Krtsanisi and Algeti Training Areas and talk to the U.S. marines. He will also visit the Combat Training Center in Vaziani.
