The solemn ceremony dedicated to the formation of the Engineer Battalion of Georgian Defence Forces was held at the drill ground of the military unit. Eastern Commander Brigadier General Aleksandre Kiknadze congratulated the military on the jubilee of the Battalion.
Since its creation, the Engineering Battalion has taken part in all the military operations for the territorial integrity of Georgia and in the demining of the areas contaminated with unexploded ordnance left over during the hostilities on the territory of Georgia.
The Engineer Brigade has been participating in peacekeeping missions in Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) since 2011. The personnel of the Battalion, by the decision of the Minister of Defence, in connection with the transition to the quarantine regime in different regions of Georgia, participated in the preventive measures against the spread of Covid-19 from the very first day and successfully coped with the task set before them.
As part of the event held today, the military servicemen were awarded the medals “for Impeccable Service” for their outstanding service and merit before the motherland. The military engineers were also handed service guns, medals and certificates of appreciation. Chaplain of the Defence Forces Farther Zakaria blessed the military servicemen.
At the end of the event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Battalion, the guests viewed various weapons and ammunition available in the Brigade.
