Defense Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili received Oglethorpe Award at the 25th Anniversary of the State Partnership between Georgia and the State of Georgia National Guard celebrated in CNGC, Atlanta. Defense Minister received the James Edward Oglethorpe Award for his dedication to the long-standing and strong strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia. While handing over the award it was mentioned: “For exceptionally meritorious service through seven years of outstanding service, culminating as the Minister of Defense of Georgia. Mr. Irakli Garibashvili distinguished himself through his dedication to the long-standing and strong strategic partnership between the United States and Georgia. As the Minister of Internal Affairs and Prime Minister, he always sought ways to strengthen the relationship further through the Georgia to Georgia State Partnership Program and many other cooperation activities. As the Minister of Defense, Mr. Irakli Garibashvili is exceptionally committed to strengthening Georgia’s security and ability to contribute to international security operations. These accomplishments, in keeping with the finest traditions of military service, reflect great credit upon himself, the Georgia Ministry of Defense, and the Country of Georgia”.
The 25th Anniversary of the State Partnership between Georgia and the State of Georgia National Guard was celebrated within Defense Minister’s visit to the Clay National Guard Center in Atlanta. The ceremony was opened with Georgian and U.S. National Anthems. Adjutant General, Georgia JFHQ-GA Major General Thomas M. Carden welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of cooperation.
While delivering speech at CNGC, Defense Minister praised the role of brilliant and brave officers and NCOs in the successful cooperation between Georgia and the USA and outlined that our exemplary relations will provide a strong platform for a strong alliance. “We attach the utmost importance to our powerful strategic partnership with the U.S. as we consolidate our democracy, transform and modernize our military, and integrate into NATO. America’s support for my state of Georgia has been unwavering. All Georgians are deeply grateful”, - stated Irakli Garibashvili.
Defense Minister emphasized the direction of military cooperation between USA and Georgia and expressed hope to strengthen Georgia’s strategic bonds with the U.S.
