“Here in Georgia NATO provides the Substantial-NATO Georgia Package. This effort brings together 26 nations to assist Georgian military with institutional reform, operational organization and tactical training. We in the United States and I in the United States Army are proud to have a special relationship with Georgia and with the Defence Forces of Georgia. It is really a strategic relationship for us. On a bilateral basis, the US Army is proud to support the Georgia Defence Readiness Program. There, Georgian Army is achieving levels of excellence, tactical excellence that rival any in the world”.
Lieutenant-General Christopher Cavoli emphasized the importance of the conference, the Black Sea security, modern challenges and Georgia-US strategic cooperation while addressing the Georgian Defense and Security Conference in Batumi. According to the American general, the number of attendees of the event and the high-level of participants noted the importance and necessity of the discussions.
In his words, strengthening the security of the Black Sea region is of great importance for the political and economic stability of the region and its surrounding countries. Lieutenant General Cavoli underlined the significant progress made in Georgia's defence transformation process, NATO-Georgia's fruitful cooperation, the US-Georgia Strategic Partnership and Georgia's special contribution to the NATO-led "strong support" mission in Afghanistan.
