Increasing dynamics in Georgia-UK bilateral cooperation, regional and global security issues, UK’s support for Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration as well as the practical support in the field of defence and security was the main subject discussed by Minister of Defence of Georgia Levan Izoria and the UK Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson within the frames of the Munich Security Conference.
Levan Izoria emphasized on the successful defence cooperation with the UK, especially in the fields of military education, Strategic Communications and cyber security and also underlined the importance of Wardrop Dialogue, which represents a remarkable format for reviewing achieved progress and setting new directions for cooperation.
One of the important subjects of the meeting was multinational exercise Agile Spirit 2019, scheduled in Georgia for summer, in which the involvement of the UK military personnel has a significant part.
Minister Izoria provided Secretary Williamson information on the reforms conducted in the Georgian Defence Forces for the aim of Georgia’s membership in NATO, including the development of Strategic Readiness and the Total Defence concept.
Based on the dynamics of Georgia-UK cooperation, Levan Izoria and Gavin Williamson discussed perspective of the future meeting. Secretary Williamson expressed readiness to hold such meeting in Georgia.
