Meeting with Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar
13 February 2019

Defence cooperation between Georgia Turkey, reforms conducted in the Georgian Defence Forces for the aim of Georgia’s membership in NATO, Turkey’s role in the implementation of Substantial NATO-Georgia Package (SNGP) – these are the subjects covered during the bilateral meeting of Georgian and Turkish defence ministers in NATO headquarters.

Levan Izoria thanked Hulusi Akar for the support of the Turkish Armed Forces in the development of the Georgian Defence Forces and noted that relations between the two countries in bilateral and trilateral format will be further developed. Minister Izoria underlined that mutual cooperation would lead to strengthened security in the Black Sea region.

Ministers noted that high-level visits speak upon dynamic relations between the two countries.

It is important that the Georgian Defence Forces and Turkish Armed Forces regularly participate in various types of exercises conducted in Georgia and Turkey.

Turkey has important contribution within SNGP, particularly in leading the Aviation Initiative and involvement with experts in the Military Police and Maritime Security initiatives.
