“Meeting NATO standards and effective distribution of budget funds are the basic directions of the reforms ongoing in Defence Ministry”-stated Chief of the General Staff of the GAF Brigadier General Vladimer Chachibaia when meeting with the West Command leadership. Chief of the GS held meetings in Senaki II Light Infantry Brigade and 10th Cadre Brigade of National Guard as well as in II Artillery Brigade in Khoni.
Brigadier General focused on the necessity of optimization ongoing in the frames of defence transformation within the GAF and underlined that the reform aims at enhancing defence capabilities of the Georgian Armed Forces. Chief of the General Staff referred to the ongoing developments in military police units of west and east battalions and stressed that their functions will become more diverse and will not be limited to patrolling and observing military law and order. According to General, mobility support, reconnaissance, protecting safety of the refugees and prisoners will be also included in the duties of the Military Police units. As a result of the reforms, payroll and administrative funds will be cut and surplus resources will be directed to enhance defence potential of the GAF.
Leadership of different military units of west command familiarized Chief of Defence with the existing environment and pledged support in the process of implementation of planned reforms.
