Bilateral Cooperation Plan for 2017 was concluded between Ministries of Georgia and Azerbaijan

Defence Minister of Georgia continues official visit to Azerbaijan. Following the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, an official welcoming ceremony of the Georgian delegation led by Minister Levan Izoria was held at the MoD of Azerbaijan. After tet-e-tet meeting with Azerbaijanian counterpart, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, the meeting of delegation continued in an extended format. Ministers signed bilateral cooperation plan for 2017.

Defence Minister of Georgia expressed gratitude to Colonel General Zakir Hasanov for warm welcoming and supporting of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and highlighted that Azerbaijan is reliable neighbor and strategic partner for Georgia that is a guarantee to strengthen stability in the region. Ministers reviewed regional security issues as well.

The sides discussed bilateral cooperation issues in defence sphere. Levan Izoria emphasized that Georgia and Azerbaijan has an active dynamic in defence sphere in bilateral and trilateral formats. Ministers referred to future cooperation prospects and highlighted the importance of joint military exercises, as well as to share experience in military-technical, cyber security and educational fields.

Trilateral ministerial among Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey was one of the issues of the meeting. As Levan Izoria outlined, with joint efforts the format will be deepened and transfer to new stage. Next year trilateral meeting will be planned to be held on the level of Chiefs of General Staff.

Within an official visit the Georgian MoD delegation laid a wreath at the graves of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and Zarifa Aliyeva.
