The National Guard of Georgia marks its 25th jubilee. The military brass band of the National Guard congratulated the military personnel and veteran guardsmen on a professional day with a concert. The solemn ceremony was held in Telavi Dramatic Theatre. Along with the military orchestra, a musical ensemble “Georgians” and a famous Georgian accordionist Vaniano Khachidze took part in the concert. Captain Koba Mermanishvili conducted the orchestra. National Guard Commander Brigadier General Levan Gamkhrelidze, Head of the Administration of Ministry of Defence Archil Abramia, Telavi local self-government representatives, the military personnel of 20th Cadre Brigade and local population attended the event. Before the concert, the visitors paid tribute to the memory of 600 guardsmen fallen in the fight for the territorial integrity of Georgia by holding a minute of silence. The compositions of Georgian and foreign composers were performed. In marking the 25th anniversary of the National Guard, an awarding ceremony was also held.
LTC Mamuka Tskhvediani, Major Zurab Sidamonidze and Major Mevlud Aslanishvili were awarded with service guns for a high professionalism revealed during performing service duties. Towards the end of the ceremony, the film about the National Guard was shown to the guests. National Guard was established on 20 December of 1990. It was the first military unit that led to the formation and development of Georgian army. In 90th of XX century, the National Guard acted as a main core of the Armed Forces in fights for the territorial integrity of Georgia.
