The National Guard of Georgia celebrates the 25th anniversary from its foundation. Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Georgian military forces, President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Defence Minister Tinatin Khidasheli and Chief of the GS of GAF Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze congratulated the personnel of National Guard and veteran guardsmen on the jubilee.
“National Guard was founded 25 years ago. It played a significant role in times when Georgia was being developed as a modern state. When we had to establish the statehood in the wake of withdrawal from the Soviet Union, you and your brothers-in-arm made a significant contribution in creating an independent state”, addressed President to the guardsmen.
Minister also focused on the new activities planned in the National Guard.
“You know that we are working on the National Guard Concept, to be present to the public at the beginning of 2016. One of its aspects is to enhance National Guard capabilities during rescue operations in functional, legal and technical terms. National Guard must be more mobile and additional barriers and procedures must not interfere with resolving the problems. Therefore we are trying to simplify this process as far as possible. Ministry of Defence will develop the National Guard Concept and I am sure that President and Government will accept it,” said Minister of Defence.
Chief of the General Staff of GAF Major General Vakhtang Kapanadze addressed the military service members assembled at the drill ground of National Guard.
“I would like to avail myself of this opportunity and to congratulate all the guardsmen and veterans on this day, to wish them success and a long life. I want to recollect our deceased guardsmen. Being a guardsman is a great responsibility and a great honor at the same time. Guard and reserve are the integral parts of a mobilization system and we are working on streamlining this system. It must be flexible, tailored to recent challenges and country`s resources. According to my mind, the National Guard capabilities must be maximally employed in the process of liquidation of natural disasters and catastrophes as their additional function,” said Major-General Vakhtang Kapanadze.
