Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces COL Omar Begoidze delivered speech at the EU high level Common Security and Defence Policy Conference. COL Begoidze highlighted Georgian troops` participation in EU-led missions. He also focused on the activities of Georgian military contingent in the Central African Republic and existing challenges.
“In the frames of the Conference we have discussed a number of important topics such as sharing experience of engagement in EU operations. We had two company- level contingents deployed in the region. At the moment 5-men Rapid Response Team is performing mission in Central African Republic. We also plan to send a person to EU mission in Mali. I think we have already accumulated a rich experience in this area and can share it with other countries as well, including the positive sides of the mission, the problems we have come across and the ways of their resolving”, remarked Deputy Chief of General Staff.
EU Common Security and Defence Policy Conference is going on in the Hotel Courtyard Marriott. Deputy Minister of Defence Ana Dolidze addressed the conference participants and spoke of Georgia`s upcoming engagement in EU civil mission from September.
During three -day conference, the representatives from the MoD, different state entities and EU Monitoring Mission will discuss a number of topics : terrorism, hybrid threats, migration issues, military and civil missions implemented under the aegis of EU throughout the world, Georgia`s participation in these missions and gained experience.
Georgia is hosting the Conference for the first time. The international forum was planned in cooperation with EUMM and is conducted by State Security and Crises Management Council.
