    Memorandum of Understanding

An amendment has been made to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) concluded between Ministry of Defence of Georgia and European Union (EU). Today, the document has been signed by Minister of Defence Mr. Bacho Akhalaia and Head of the EU Monitoring Mission, Ambassador Hansjorg Haber.
The amendment sets out a number of technical measures designed to improve cooperation between the Mission and the Ministry. On the basis of the amendment EU Monitoring Mission will carry out monitoring at the military bases which will further increase the transparency of MoD activities.
The original version of MoU, concluded on January 26, 2009, contains a number of unilateral obligations undertaken by Ministry to document the adherence of Georgia to the principle of non-use of force as enshrined in the Six-Points Agreement of 12 August, 2008. The MoU defines certain limitations in movement of armed forces along the administrative boundary lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia and contains the requirement of preliminarily informing of  the EU Mission on the Georgian Armed Forces` activities.
