The History of Sachkhere Mountain-Training School

The 16th Mountain Battalion was set up on the basis of current Mountain-training School in 1991. The Battalion was created by the Georgian national hero Besik Kutateladze. Sachkhere Mountain-training School used to take part in battles for the territorial integrity of Georgia. A total of 21 military servants died during combat operations.

Rapid build up and development of Georgian Armed Forces began right after the well-known 2003 Rose Revolution, which brought the new government into power.

Sachkhere Mountain Training School was established under the Order #240 of the Minister of Defence of Georgia on 14 August 2006.

In 2010, within the framework of NATO-Georgia cooperation, the School has been officially granted the status of PfP (Partnership for Peace Program) Training and Education Center.
